Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA National Open Series

Hi kids - Lets just start this off right - this four race series wouldn't be happening if it were not for PC Richard and Son Company stepping up with sponsorship - so let me be the first - thank you Gary Richard .I know I'm not alone when I say I'm glad you're a real car guy and a NHRA supporter .If you should run into Gary or any of the PC Richard guys this weekend let 'em know how you feel - I'm sure they'd be glad to hear it .

Next we'll talk a little about drama .Those of you who are close to me know that I can't go to a race without a little .Sometimes more than a little .I would have already been parked at Atco without this weeks little challenges .Yes , I'm not there but hope to be in a few hours or so .

This all started Monday when while starting to load the motorhome I noticed the right rear tire was not in its normal position and with some further inspection it looked dim - flat and the rim seal was broken .No problem I thought - I've got Triple A RV Plus - so I phoned them up and they said a truck would be out to tow me in an hour .That hour turned into three then five .I told them originally I didn't need a tow but only a tire change but they wouldn't listen .Thirty-three hours later they finally listened and sent a truck tire company out to help me .Good idea but to know avail as the tire was cut on the inside sidewall .They patched it enough to hold air and drive it to a shop.My hunt for a new tire went nowhere until I called Alex Cortezza - owner of Alex's Tires in Stockertown , PA .Oh yeah - did I mention it was that Alex Cortezza - the Drag-Pak owner who's son went rounds at the recent Gators with it .Did I also mention that Alex and I raced at Mt.View Speedway back in the sixties .Anyway Alex and company had the fresh rubber mounted and me back to loading up in no time flat ( plenty of pun intended ) - thanks again Alex .

Anyway I'll be trying tomorrow to bring you the best from Atco's test n tune ( and Tech ) which will run all day ..........................

Just a few words about this afternoons test n tune - the track is awesome ! ! After my first pass I had to come back for an underwear change - stood 'er up on the bumper.Problem is there is a terrific headwind so I haven't seen many really fast runs but there is still time ......back with some pics a little later .

Sorry for the long delay, Jack has been very busy with his new COPO and I have been helping Anthony Bongiovanni with his cars. I will be driving Anthony's G/SA CJ this weekend.

Since I was in Anthony's pit is was easy to get some quick photos. I did get Anthony driving his SS/BA Cobra Jet. The first is an in car of Anthony, and the second was the same run from outside. Anthony had to lift early on this run, but was able to make a full pass on the next run.

The weather was very good today, I can't give exact numbers. The temp was around 65 and the barometer was 30.10 with a DA between 200 to 600 above sea level, with a head cross wind about 5 mph.

Anthony in his SS/BA went a 8.68 at 155 and hopes to set the record tomorrow. I think a high 8.50 and close to 160 is in reach. The G/SA went a 10.78 at 122.5. We hope to set the record with the G car too.

David Barton went a 9.44 for the CC/SA record in the Challenger, not sure of the mph. Gary Richard in his C/SA 69 Camaro went 10.11 at 129. Look for some faster runs tomorrow.

There are more records and Jack wrote them down, I hope he will be on later with a report. I have to more videos and will post them as soon as I am done editing.

The first video is Stan Giermanski is his C/SA Nova and the other is Jack Matyas having tractions issues, its a very short video. Jack did stand it up on one run and its on video, as so as I get it, I will post it.

I hope tomorrow goes smoother so I can get some more photos and more videos.
