We become friends with Paul Rossi in 77 and he got us a deal to build a 79 Ply roadrunner for SS/Ma or NA with the wt. in 1st NHRA meet 1979 INDY Nationals was class runner up to Joe warnes. Next time to a national was the 1980 Gators, was again in class final vs Joe & he won again as he had me covered by .04. Last NHRA class final I was in with a SS car, but did win IHRA class 4 x and set the nhra 1/8 mile & iHRA 1/8 & 1/4 mile records. Was also the last SS season champ at Milan Dragway in 81 after that they didn't run for a season champion again. Best E.T. 12.17 & MPH 111 With a Koffels Place engine we bought when he started his shop in 1981. In 83 had to have my knee operated on, so I knew I couldn't race the volare and Ruth said why don't I run our street car a 80 omni in stock class, so we did .Drove it there 1st INDY class win after trying for 11yrs in SS, next 20 yrs was in every INDY class final with 5 different cars. |

We sold it to some bracket racers from Ga., Rick Fuller redid it & won a National with it, he sold it to Nick Dennis, and I don't know how Stincle got it.

Re: Link to our SS/NA Volare story
Actually Herb McCandless Jr. bought it from Rick Fuller along with the LeBaron convertible GT car that he won the IHRA World Championship. Jr. sold it to Nick. It was a good car as I got to drive it once after Jr. bought it. And it's better now!
