LT1 Hydraulic Roller Lifters
I have never dealt with hydraulic roller lifters before so I need some guidance, especially for a stocker application. What lifters are being used in LT1 stocker engines? I have done some browsing and found that Comp Cams sells short travel lifters, but was wondering if there are other lifters commonly being used for this application.
Any advice given is appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy |
Re: LT1 Hydraulic Roller Lifters
I used lifters from Bullet cams. I don't know who made them (Morel is a good guess) but they were very nicely made. ......Only issue was they were pretty tall. Removal or installtion with the heads on would not work without making some clearance on the underside of the heads. They had limited travel and I had no problems with them. They were pricey but all roller lifters have gone way up in price in the last few years.....

Re: LT1 Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Have used Comp short travel lifters in two LT-1 engines with no problems, nice lifters for the price.

I just got a set for the LT1 96 Firebird stocker that I am building. But I have not finished putting the engine together. They look alot like the factory lifters. The one thing I have not found out yet is how much travel they have. The rule says that hydraulic lifters can not be plugged or bottomed but it does not say how much travel they need to have. I sent a email to NHRA about it and never heard back. One person said they had to have .015 travel but I cannot find that anywhere. If anybody knows how much they do need to have I would appreciate the info. If ;you would like to see a picture of them send me a PM with your email address and I will send one when I get home next week. |

Doesn't Cliff Sherman modify the stock LT1 lifters ? many stocker hydraulic roller lifter cars use them, I have them, they work great!!!!

Re: LT1 Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Thank you for the responses so far. It gave me some more options to look at that I only could have got with the help here.
I also thought that 0.015" plunger travel was published somewhere, but it's not in the 2012 rulebook or 2009, so I'm not sure where I saw it. For the Comp short travel lifters, do you bottom the lifter out with a feeler gauge (0.005", 0.010" or see what works best?) between the rocker and valve tip? Thanks, Jeremy |
