X- pipe exhaust
I am considering installing an X-pipe exhaust system(without mufflers) on a Chevelle with a SBC.Now I am using headers with bullet mufflers.I have read that I will pickup HP,but will there be any performance gains after adding the extra weight of the new exhaust system?

Re: X- pipe exhaust
We picked up .3 in the eighth with a flat top, 336 69 nova, with cast manifolds. The weight did not hurt it. Would expect something even with headers. Someone else may have more input.

Re: X- pipe exhaust
My car runs .1-.15 faster in the 1/8 with 3" x pipe and mufflers with turndowns, than with open headers. There's something to that technology I guess

Re: X- pipe exhaust
Had bullets about mid car. Went to full exhuast out the back with x-pipe in proper location. Gained 45 lbs weight and picked up .04 et. sbc

Re: X- pipe exhaust
Jeff, how can you be sure about four hundredths, week-to-week. Surely you didn't back-to-back that system at the track, same day?

Remove the system and run open headers with a collector extension, add 40lbs of lead and the car runs .10 slower et and 1.5 mph slower. That was a back to back test, within 45 minutes. I have done this several times. X pipe and mufflers, would not leave home without them. |
Re: X- pipe exhaust
OK, I'm sold on the benefits of the X pipe.Should I use my bullet mufflers or just turn downs? Or test both combos?
