Quadrajet Gasket and tuning

Hello,

Im running a 350/255 combo in G/SA

I would like to know what carb gasket people use,

I currently run a open style one and want to know witch one is the best

Also, i start the run really rich and in 2nd and 3rd gear it leans a bit too much, how can i fix this

Thanks

What is your fuel pressure in 2nd and Hi gears? You can't compensate for no fuel by trying to put in too much fuel.Sounds like it could be running out of gas to me.

Mat,

What kind of fuel pump do you run ? Yes, you need to see the fuel pressure gauge while you are making the run ... I think you will be surprised when you put the gauge on the cowl outside near windshield ... Then you can see what's happening in 2nd & thru traps ..
Sounds like lack of fuel , check it out ... Hope you are doing well ..

Give Danny a call he will help you out .................

Hey Mat
Are you using a datalogger. If you are not, this is a good time to get one. That way you can monitor more than one thing and at that time install an O2 so you really know what is happening (And ya aint gotta watch fur it). Just a suggestion. Also install a couple of egt's so you know what else is a happening.

For the gaskets your allowed two, we run the 4 hole on the bottom open on the top(worth some torque). I would test the flow on the pump it should overflow a gallon container in 30 sec. through the reg. at 7psi. If that checks ok check the sec. side of the carb, how do the plugs look after a pass. X2 on giving Danny a call. gsa612

FIRST get rid of the BG pump--second buy an Aeromotive pump like a 11203 uses less AMPs, Magna Fuel or a Weldon both great pumps too-- stay away from the Holleys too---check ALL your hose sizes make sure they are adequate for your set up place fuel pressure gauge so you can monitor whats going on during the run--then if problem persists call D.A.

Mat,

As gsa612 said, you are allowed to run two gaskets under a stocker carb. Most Q-jet engines, including mine, prefer two of the 1/4" thick open gaskets. Applications that have a low rpm range will typically like two of the four hole gaskets. Some racers do run a combination of the two on a SBC, and as cheap as gaskets are you should try every possible combination. You'll find one combination that will be worth at least .02-.03 over the others, so it could be the cheapest hp you'll find.

As for your rich/lean issue, are you basing this on O2 data? As long as your fuel system is adequate, you can lean a Q-jet on the front end and richen it on the top end (or vice versa, or do one of the two independently).

Dean
