Engine Chill Down Unit

I apologize if this question has already been posted. Does anyone have experience(s) with an engine chiller (for cool down between rounds). I'm interested in making a purchase but I'd appreciate input from Class Racer members.

You're right, lots of threads; just use the search function in the forum toolbar and search for chiller. This is a good one...

I got a kick out of Tom Sheehan's 'pics from Indy' last year, chillers were thick in the lanes during class, believe last year's Indy was the max number I've ever seen.

I've seen plenty of homemade ones, but all of them use ice. Has anyone built one that doesn't use ice?

Also, what kind of pumps are people using? Most of the ones I'm finding are 12V but we would like one that we could plug in and not need a battery.

Andrew-- Look at Ralley Bob"s link. Sounds like what you are looking for.

Rob Youngblood at Advanced Clutches sells an affordable chiller.

It's exactly what I'm looking for, except a couple grand too expensive! I was hoping someone had made one themselves for a more reasonable cost and was willing to share their idea.

I use a 110v pump that is made for evacuating flooded basements. It draws from under its base, and will maintain suction to 1/4 inch. It gets submerged in a 5 gallon bucket of ice water. It plugs into a generator that we carry on a garden wagon along with in and out (or cold and warm) water containers.

Our check valve comes from a basement sump pump as well.

got a number for that check valve? I live in a part of the country that doesn't have basements, so I'm pretty clueless on those.

Tony are you comfortable sharing how much you picked up using the "cooler"? Inquiring minds want to know.
