402 BB Chevy Hp?
 

Hi guyz I just got my engine back from machine shop & I have a couple questions.. The engine is 30 over 402 plate honed & decked 10. .182 dome pistons. 106cc oval port heads Performer intake with an 800 Q-Jet . cam 224@ .050 .510 lift hyd roller. Question 1) How much power will this combo make? 2) the car is a 1967 Camaro with 350 turbo 9" 4200 converter with 4.11 gears...what E.T. ya think it will run? ( it's a street/strip car) Thanks for your input :)

Depending on how the heads were done,I would guess somewhere in the 450 range for power.

Considering I'm not a fan of the Performer intake (the RPM version is fine) and I don't know how well the heads are done (no mention of big valves or porting), nor whose cam it is, I'm going conservative and figuring 350-375.

That's a ton too much converter (about 1500 RPM too much), especially with that small a cam and a 4.11 gear., it will probably hurt ET, and especially MPH. In a good state of tune with traction, mid 13 seconds.

What trans? PG, 350, or 200, 700R4?

Alan I agree on to much converter...heads are 72 model 402 heads with stainless valve 3 angle valve job good springs...stepping back in looking @ it I was trying to save a few bucks...Comp Products has a GM "take out" hyd roller for $34...with 1.8 rockers would make it .510 lift...but if I'm going to have to buy a converter.... I was just wondering if you guys thought it would run 12's I was thinking maybe but now not so sure. Prob just keep stuff I got & buy a better cam

Those take out cams are old Crane cams out of boat engines for the most part. They don't normally have enough RPM range for the gear and converter you have.

Consider a Lunati Voodoo camshaft, steel billet with the standard iron distributor gear (you have to order it that way) or use the regular steel core and a Comp composite distributor gear. The old number is 60212. The new number is 20110712. You could go one step bigger with the 20110713, but you don't really have the compression or the intake (you need an RPM series or similar to make it work right).

With that converter, you could run a Comp 11-456-9 (the -9 makes it steel, and a custom), they say it is for a boat, but if you put it in at 108, it has a real broad power band. It does not have as much lift as the Lunati. I run the Comp steel cores with their composite distributor gear, they work great.

Your combo is similar to my stocker combo, but you have 1 point more comp. and.100 more lift. I would try the conv. you have, it should be close, it might be a little loose for the street.I would say high 12's gsa612
