afco spring sliders
 

hello to all, I have a 2 part question for the mopar guys. are any of you guys running rear spring sliders on your cars, and can you give some input as to how they have helped the car? also, at what angle should they be installed, flat or nose down? this is for my 67 belvedere bracket car with superstock springs. not sure if you guys are allowed to use them in stock eliminator, but maybe have some experience with them. thank you in advance.

I assume you are using ladder bars? They are not allowed in stock.

no sir, this is just a bracket car. it has mopar superstock leaf springs and an adjustable pinion snubber. I may should have posted this question elsewhere, but really value the opinion of class racers. wasn't sure if they were allowed or not.

Any spring slider or pivot type axle housing mount is used in conjuction with a ladder bar or link system that positively locates the axle without using the spring for that purpose. They cannot be used on a leaf spring only rear suspension. In your application you might be better served by asking about something like a Calvert traction bar setup.

I think I should have been more clear. you guys are talking about a floating housing which is used when ladder bars are installed on a leaf spring car. what I'm refering to are rear spring sliders that replace shackles. sorry for the confusion.

He is talking about the AFCO rear shackles. The rear leaf connects to the shackle with a roller bearing that slides fore / aft. The shackle assembly bolts to the rear frame and the spring can then move with the roller.
To answer the question, I believe you have full race weight and driver. Adjust so the slider is at mid-travel. I have not used so I can't offer any other advice.

thanks for the pic. I see you have yours mounted "flat" to the frame. I had heard that you may want to mount them a little nose down in the front, but if you say yours work well, then I guess it isn't that critical. I suppose the main thing is just the fact that the spring stays on the same plane as it works back and forth, instead of on an arch like the shackles. did you notice any real benifit from them? more consistent 60' times, or better 60' times? theory is that they keep constant down pressure on the tire instead of varying pressure the way a shackle does as it goes back and forth past 90 degrees during their arch swing. makes a little sense, but people who have tried them are more reliable than theory in my book. thanks again.

ah, so the slot on the slider needs to run pointed straight through the front spring eye center. thank you, I had looked at their website, but somehow missed that part.
