SB Ford CSR water pump O rings
 

I have a used CSR electric water pump for a SB Ford. It has an aluminum plate that attatches to the stock timing cover, and the pump itself bolts to the plate. I noticed that there are grooves for O Rings in the water pump body where the pump bolts to the plate, and I am missing one of these O Rings. The O rings are not round, rather they have an irregular shape. Does anybody know if these O rings are available anywhere? Or, if I could just use a bead of good quality RTV, like "Right Stuff" instead? I currently am using the stock Ford water pump with a Moroso electric belt drive, which is wired to run "backwards", since the factory 85 Mustang 5.0 serpentine belt setup runs counter-clockwise. I should be able to run the CSR pump wired to a "normal" though, shouldn`t I?

You can order the o-rings from CSR. Summit or Jegs might have them in stock.

I would think that you would run the electric pump in the usual direction, draw from the lower radiator hose and pump into the block.

Thanks Bill, I did see the CSR site showing water pump O rings, but those are not the pieces I need. Those appear to be for the pump itself, I need the irregular shaped O rings that go between the pump and the plate.

I think you can use normal gaskets if the O rings are not there

Take your housing that has the grove in it, you should be able to match up the diameter and O-ring size at a hardware store. You will probably have to glue the O-ring in the groove to keep from cutting it, when you install it. The original water pump was a reverse rotation due to the serpentine belt rotating the pump backwards, compared to a conventional V-belt drive system.

If you use permatex Ultra Gray to seal it, you won't have any problems. Haven't used O rings with my pumps in years
