2008 Mustang stocker

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to run a regular mustang gt in stock, it would fit in to G/S with index of 11.90 does anyone thing that combo would be competive?

Chad,
The 2008 Mustang is in the guide along with the Roush and Cobra Jet models.

Yeah, the '06-'08 GTs are in the guide @ 300hp.

I believe it would be tough to get in under the index.
Possible maybe, but I don't recall reading where anyone has tried that combo yet.
Seems to be factored pretty high, especially when compared to the 2010 4.6 3V CJ.

I also thought they were factored kinda high in the HP.
I have seen natural aspirated cars with stock long block run in the 11.80s but I don't know if there intakes manifolds were stock, which I have heard do not make a big difference in N/A 3v mustang. There is a lot of rotating weight on these cars with the big brakes, wheels and tires, and the heavy drive shaft with cv joints( would it be legal to change ?).

I just don't want to spend all the money then fall short to the index. Thanks for the help

I would think the aftermarket 1 piece d.s. would be legal, seeing as how it is much cafer than the factory 2 pc setup. Of course you would have to ask a tech guy.

If those cars were factored around 265 -275 h.p. , then you might have a chance.

Getting under the index would be do-able. Being competitive in the class would not.

I was reading the article in the latest 5.0 Magazine about the 2013 CJ 5.0 Coyote and that 8,000 RPM N/A screamer is "only" rated at 325 hp...

How far under the index is considered competive? I just got the new national dragster and the guy who won the division 3 race was dialed around .4 under.

If you can run under the index consistently, dial the car correctly for the conditions, and knock down the tree, you are competitive. The only issue you would have is running into another G/S car in a heads-up during eliminations. If he is faster than you, your probably toast, and there are some fast cars in that class. However, heads up runs are not that common anymore, and especially not in a stick class like G/S. Nitro Joes says that there were only 12 G/S cars run in the entire country last year. Contrast that with over 100 cars in the A,B,C,D automatic classes. If you get to an event and there are several G/S cars there, you can always try to hide out in H/S (9 cars) or F/S (11 cars) by juggling weight.
