Powerglide vs. 3psd turbo ???

In a 67 big block chevy combo is there any advantage or dis advantage between th350/th200 vs power glide. In ET,MPH Consistancy? Pros and cons??? anyone done back to back comparisons??? any input would be appreciated.

IMO it depends a lot on how you are running the car, how heavy, footbrake vs. transbrake, how much horsepower, etc.

I built a bracket car for a customer, '91 Camaro with 9 inch tires and a 377 small block. We back to backed a 350 with a PG. The glide was about a tenth slower in the 1/4 mile. We were footbraking and ran a 10.17 with the turbo and went a 10.29 with the glide. The turbo was an all steel unit with the standard 2.52 low, and the glide was a 1.76. We lost about a nickel in 60 ft. with the glide.

I went from a tricked out lite weight 1.98 PG to a 2.12/1.35/1 Proflite and picked up almost .15...
That was with a 660 HP 425 LB ft tq V-6 in a 3200 lb car. The 60 was .02 better, but the middle of the track was where it picked up. The combination liked the second gear ratio. One time I did a back to back with a tricked out lite weight 1.98 vs a 1.76 and the car lost a full .10 with the 1.76. I'm like Jim, what you gain or lose all depends on the combination you have.
Weight, HP, Tq and rpm range vs gear ratios & Tq converter play a part.
Another thing I found was the more low gear you change to the more it tightens your converter stall. So the ideal converter for a PG may not do so good in a low gear 3 speed.

One less shift is what you want for ET consistency. There's a reason why so many bracket racers prefer a PG over a 3 speed. If you want to just go fast run the 3 speed and if you want to go more rounds consistently run the PG.........

'68 camaro 350ci/ approx 3000lbs.

2sp glide - tricked out ATI with 2.08 straight cut first vs. tricked out ATI T350 with 2.75. There is way more money that could have been spent on both trannys but i wanted to get aleast a couple of seasons out of them before freshening.

2sp - 1.37-8, 6.51@102, 10.44-8@124.9
3 sp - 1.34-6 6.58@100, 10.51@122-3

the car comes up way high on the launch with the thre spped and i find that when it comes down i have to steer ever so much, where as the glide still pulls the wheel a fair amount by the the car stays dead straight. also with the 3sp there is a secondary bounce. i have purchased Santoff shocks and springs which will be installed this spring to try to stop the bounce and hopefully make the 3 sp quicker.

..and i have installed wheelie bars, but i have found a .02-.06 drop in sixty foot with each inch i lower the wheel hieght.
