1965 BB/Stock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,???

A class that could have been created by the NHRA in 1965,,,,

For 1965 production cars only,,,,,,,
permitting the dealer to install a big-body car engine in the
intermediate car which could fit in the engine compartment without
modifications,,,,,,,,,

Class; BB/S or BB/SA

Using a car base weight of approximately 3400 to 3500 lbs, and
a general horsepower rating of 375 HP
With a Weight-to-Horsepower factor around 9.00

1965 Cars Classed for BB/S or BB/SA

Oldsmobile 4-4-2,,,,(with the 425/370 HP Starfire-Engine Option)
* 370 HP @ 4800 RPM,,,,,,,,470 Ft.-Lbs. of Torque
* Compression Ratio = 10.50 - 1
* Camshaft = .472/.461 lift,,, w/ 286*/280* duration and 50* overlap
* High-rate valve springs w/damper
* Late-year production cylinder heads (#389335) w/larger intake ports and 75 cc combustion chambers
* Smaller 75 cc heads (standard heads 77 cc) increased compression to 10.7 - 1
* Special larger intake valves 2.067"
* Standard size exhaust valves 1.63"
* Cast iron medium-riser dual-plane intake manifold
* Quadrajet Spread-bore carburetor 750 CFM (Late-production 1965 model #7025151)
* Special dual-point distributor

Note: The 425 'Starfire' engine featured larger lifter bore sizes, to handle camshafts with a more aggressive profile.

Buick GS,,,,(with the 425/380 HP 'Super Wildcat', 'Y48' Option)
* 380 HP @ 4800 RPM,,,,,,465 Ft.-Lbs. of Torque
* Compression Ratio = 10.25 - 1
* Camshaft = .439/.441 lift,,, w/ 290*/299* duration and 77* overlap
* High-rate dual valve springs
* Medium size port heads with 1.87" Intake / 1.50" Exhaust
* Buick Experimental aluminum medium-riser dual-quad intake manifold
* Twin Carter AFB's 625 CFM (1 9/16" x 1 11/16")
* Special dual-point distributor

Note: The standard 401/325 HP 'Nailhead Engine' in the 65' Buick GS (B/Stock Class) gets replaced with
'Super Wildcat' engine, with the 'Y48' option.

Note: Featuring, a 'medium-lift' camshaft, but with a long duration. High-rate dual valve springs, to eliminate
valve float at higher RPM's. And, the 'experimental' aluminum dual-quad intake manifold, with twin gas-guzzling/air-sucking Carter AFB (625 CFM) carburetors.

Note: This 425/380 HP engine combination (found in the 1965 Buick Wildcat) put out 55 more horsepower than the 401/325 HP engine (found in the 65' 'high-performance' Buick GS)

Pontiac GTO,,,,(with the 421/376 HP 'HO', 'YK' Code)
* 376 HP @ 5000 RPM,,,, 461 Ft.-Lbs. of Torque
* Compression ratio = 10.75 - 1
* Camshaft = .417/.419 lift,,, w/ 288*/302* duration and 63* overlap
* High-rate dual valve springs
* Medium size port heads with 1.92" Intake / 1.66" Exhaust
* Tri-carbed cast iron intake manifold
* Triple Rochester carburetors
* Special dual-point distributor

Note: The camshaft was the famous 'HO' '068' bumpstick, with a moderate lift, but radical duration.

Note: The 421/376 HP 'HO' Rochester Carburetor ratings;,,,,
Center-Carb = 278 CFM,,,,,, Front and Rear Carbs = 308 CFM

Note: The 65' engine featured a new-revised high-riser intake manifold.

Re: 1965 BB/Stock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,???

Pete,

1965 A/Stock = 8.70 to 9.49 Wt./Hp...........(Would have been changed to 8.30 to 8.89 Wt/Hp)

The A/Stock cars in 1965 were running;
A/S = 12.70's
A/SA = 12.95's

1965 B/Stock = 9.50 to 10.59 Wt./Hp. factor.....(Would have been changed to 9.50 to 10.09 Wt/Hp)

Also known as, the 'factory' general street-musclecar class

The B/Stock cars in 1965, were running;
B/S = 13.00's
B/SA = 13.30's

The 1965 proposal would have had the BB/Stock cars (1965 only cars) with a
8.90 to 9.49 Wt./Hp. factor,,,,

A 'dealer prepared' street musclecar, with a big-body car stock performance engine,,,,

Which would have put the;
1965 Buick GS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 425/380 HP,,,,,,(3430 lbs.),,,,,,,9.03 Wt/Hp
1965 Oldsmoblie 4-4-2,,,425/370 HP,,,,,(3395 lbs.),,,,,,,,9.25 Wt/Hp
1965 Pontiac GTO,,,,,,,,,,421/376 HP,,,,,,(3467 lbs.),,,,,,,9.25 Wt/Hp

All within a great competitive class,,,,with cubic inches, horsepower and weight pretty much equal....

1965 Elapsed Times,,,,,,,, probably in the 12.85 range,,,,

Re: 1965 BB/Stock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,???

1965,,,,,,,BB/S

The class was for 'intermediate cars only',,,

So the 65' Malibu SS 396/375 HP could qualify for BB/S.

Car Weight; #3350 lbs.
Wt/Hp = 8.93
Class; BB/S

Chevelle Malibu SS396,,,,(w/Z-16 Option and 396/375 HP L-37 Engine Code).

With only 201 built (production numbers), back in 1965 I don't think they could run in
A/Stock.
