1966 Dodge Charger

Introduced to the public,,,,,, January 1, 1966. Never really carved a niche in the Super Stock or Stock Class drag racing scene. Though an aerodynamic success in Nascar, was too bulky for the drag strip, in conventional classes. But as a Funny Car; Roger Lindamood 'Color Me Gone' Don Schumaker 'Stardust' In 1966, available with the; 361/265 HP (2-Barrel),,,,,,,,,,#3668 lbs.,,,,,,,,,(1966,,,,H/S or H/SA) 383/325 HP,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,#3712 lbs.,,,,,,,,,(1966,,,,E/S or E/SA) 426/425 HP (Street-Hemi),,,,#3895 lbs.,,,,,,,,,(1966,,,A/S or A/SA) Unfortunately about #200+ lbs. heavier than the Plymouth Belvedere and Dodge Coronet.426 Street-Hemi's. Rumor has it, that a handful of the late-production 1966 Chargers came equipped with the 1966 J-Code 440/365 HP., and a 'special police interceptor' 727 Torque-Flite transmission with a higher stall torque-converter. Supposedly, '10' black 66' Chargers found there way to the Erie County (upstate New York) New York State Troopers Motor Pool, as 'special police pursuit vehicles'. They were used to patrol the 28 mile section of Interstate-190 (Niagara Thruway), and the Erie County portion of Interstate-90 (New York State Thruway) |
