Re: wagon fuel cell
The 6-passenger full-size wagon's have a luggage compartment in the very rear of the load floor, where the "rear-rear" seat would fold on the 9-passenger. If the Chevy ll has the same set-up, that's where I'd put it. You won't need to fabricate a fire-proof bulkhead, because the compartment has a hinged steel cover. Cut a hole in the floor for the sump, and get the mounting kit for the size tank you purchase.

Re: wagon fuel cell
That is exactly where my kid's is at. However, I have seen them mounted
in plain sight in several wagons as far back as possible and simply vented to outside(Seen at Nat'ls)........I guess that must be OK too? I am Happier myself with it behind Bulkhead on boy's wagon. |
Re: wagon fuel cell
Lew my floor is straight from the back seat to the tailgate. if i was to put it on the top and cut a hole for the sump wpuldn't i have to make some kind of box around it to be legal?

Re: wagon fuel cell
I'm far from an expert, but I do know that the tank has to be shielded from the drivers compartment by a fire-proof cover/enclosure and vented outside the vehicle body. Coupes and sedans have back seat bulkheads that when properly modified satisfy the rules. Maybe you can build a box to put the tank in and mount it below floor level with a hinged steel or aluminum cover.
I wish I had better advice for you, but I'm sure someone on Class Racer has already done what you're attempting. One other thought - I think CompetitionPlus did a few articles on their "cloning" of Gene Fulton's old Nova wagon. Might be some good info there. Good Luck! Lew |
Re: wagon fuel cell
lew > i had a guy (tommy mattingly) make a cell that fits in the quarter just under the fuel door. it looks like a shoe box, bolts to the frame, holds about 5 gallons and uses the original fuel inlet from the car... it is the **** do not have to roll window down open tailgate etc... just like factory.
