Some notes from Hagerstown this weekend
Some notes and thoughts from this past weekend at Hagerstown:
-Track on Saturday. I know the track was a bit iffy for a few folks on Saturday. After talking to Elmer on Saturday evening, they scraped, dragged and sprayed the track and it seemed to be much better on Sunday. Also on Sunday there were very few street tire'd cars, which helped. I apologize to those who may have had some trouble on Saturday, and hope things were better for you on Sunday. -Also, I want to apologize to anyone who gets sick this week. My mom and I picked a bad week to come down with a pretty bad head/sinus/chest cold. Both of our voices sounded like crap, and we had to kind of lean in and shout when talking to people, especially when cars were idling/racing nearby. So don't think I was yelling at you, my voice was just about gone and had to yell for anyone to hear me. -Test and tune. I know I had stated in the sticky topic that was on here, that "You will have no problem making as many runs as you want". Normally, that is the case. However, I can not recall that many cars there on a Saturday as was there last weekend. 58 S/SS cars is more than double the normal amount on a Saturday, and a ton of bracket and street cars were there as well. I hope you weren't terribly disapointed if you only got 3 or 4 runs. -We had a LOT of first timers at Hagerstown. New to either this race, or one of my races in general. I would like to hear your (or anyone who was there) input if there is anything we (myself and the track) can do to better improve our race programs. As stated, we had 73 cars for the weekend. By far, the biggest race I have ever done. We actually broke the record on Saturday, with 58. The 63 cars for first round was also a record car count for a first round. Hopefully this race can keep on growing. A special shout-out to Aris Asdourian. Third round on Saturday, he broke in his SS/C AMX. Took it home, and brought back his D/SA AMX to race on Sunday. Thanks Aris, your efforts are very much appreciated. The racing this weekend was pretty good. It was hard to hear the speakers on the starting line, but heard a lot of good reaction times and close MOV's at the stripe. Once I get my clipboards back from the track, I will post all the round by round info, as well as update our points and figure out the champion and other money winners. Speaking of money, did someone that was a second round loser on Sunday not get their money at the timeslip booth? We ended up with an extra $50 somehow. Mom thought she had paid everyone of the 16 2nd round losers that had money coming, but we may not have. So if you lost second round Sunday and did not get your $50, please let me know. Also, I don't know who did it, but to the racer, and racers, who took up a collection for me in appreciation for doing these races, a heart-felt thank you. That was very kind and wasn't necesary. But again, thank you. I really appreciate it. Finally, I sincerely want to thank everyone who attended. Whether as a racer, crew member or spectator. I hope you enjoyed the show and had a great time this weekend. And thanks to those who helped spread the word to other races and recruited them to come. We thank you very much, and look forward to hopefully a better 2012 season of S/SS races. |
Re: Some notes from Hagerstown this weekend
That would be big Tim Worner. I chipped in quickly after I saw him holding Cupp upside down by his legs and shaking him while Bryan gathered up what fell out of his pockets. Hope you can use the finger nail clippers, rabbits foot and pocket lint. Thanks again to you and your Mom for going thru all the agravation to put these things on. ----------------Also Can you convey to Elmer our thanks for listening to and adressing the traction concerns that we discussed last month.---------Thanks, Danny

Re: Some notes from Hagerstown this weekend
Thanks Dan, and thank you Tim and everyone. We were really touched. And will do about the track.
Also, to anyone who is planning on racing with us next year, I have some info posted here: http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=37069 Also a big thanks to Larry Mohar to books our annual Racer Dinner at the Crazy Horse Steakhouse. This years was huge. We had to move people around, add a table, and I still don't know if we got everyone in the room. Tim Worner, Tommy and Harry Sheehan shared some pretty good jokes and stories as well. |
Re: Some notes from Hagerstown this weekend
One more thing I forgot. I know Mr Jack Matyas catches flack on here for being the NorthEast's 'Rain Man'. Well, he's been to Hagerstown twice now, and we had sunny, nice weather all four days he was here, in 2009 and 2011. So it must be something/someone else.

Mike, you really put on a great show at Mason-Dixon this past weekend! The racing was fantastic and other than being a little(!) cold in the morning, the weather was perfect! I also made some new friends, who I think I'll keep forever!!
All-in-all a wonderful weekend of doing what I love, having fun drag racing! I'm really looking forward to next years program!! Thanks again! Lew |
Re: Some notes from Hagerstown this weekend
Mike, i'm really sorry i didnt end up making it this past weekend. I left work early on Friday just not feeling right, ended up catching something and pretty much sleep from Friday till Sunday evening. Rick had his other pure stock thunderbird for me to drive and all ready to go, just felt like death. I'll have my car back together next year (hopefully) but if not i'll try and run Rick's T-bird and get back out there and hit some more races. Tell your mom and dad i said hi, and hope you and her get to feeling better..
