1988 mustang 2900 lbs w/driver c4 tranny,5400 8 inch conveter 28x10.5

Car ran 10.29 @132.12 with 1.49 60 footbraking.

Just wondering if the 60 ft can be improved and maybe a number I should be working toward.
Thanks.

Re: 60 ft. Question

you can set up a car to many different things---60 foot---- 1/8th ---1/4---ET--MPH what ever --- just cuz ya have a tremendous 60 foot time doesnt mean that the 1/4 is going to be fantastic too---now if the exact same or similiarly classed car car had a 1.39 vs. your 1.49 and the same 1/4 ET/MPH then you need to pick up your 60 a bit cuz a rule of thumb is for every .01 of 60 double it at the other end and take that time off your 1/4 mile ET and that's what your corrected ET should be--- for example 1.49 =60 and the 1/4 ET is 10.20 so if you could pick it up to say a 1.45=60 your 1/4 et should be .03x2+.06 new ET should be 10.14--- not carved in stone too many variables to consider but I hope this will give ya an idea

Re: 60 ft. Question

Aa Greg says Low gear in the C4 2.92 or 2.75 is the common low gear sets for these. If you are at a stock ratio you can inprove a bunch. My Fox body mustang stoker is simular in wieght and rear gear mine is 4.88 and I run the 2.92 first gear in the c4 has had the best 60' of 1.52 et are 11.97. Do you use a 2 step also?

Re: 60 ft. Question

Any nitrous? Mine is a stock c4, 4.10 gear, 3120 lbs. with me, no nitrous. Usually 1.50 - 1.52 with 2 step at Bandimere runs 11.20's. San Antonio Nitro Jam last spring consistant 1.42's no 2 step. Footbraking at about 2000 rpm and stab the throttle. Ran high 10.50's -60's. Best 60' Saurday morning 1.405. Lots of fun.:)

Re: 60 ft. Question

I forgot to add with mine I never saw 126 mph. Best was 125.77 mph. I think 132 mph is a lot for that et. :)

Re: 60 ft. Question

You know, I keep hearing about the 60" improvements multiply. I must be doing something very wrong. Mine picks up in the 1/4 mile the same as the 60' improves.
Never more. When I first started trying to play with mine, after being away over 30 years (no 60' or other incremental times back then) I noticed that when I first tried to bracket race a little. So, I asked my old friend Mike Edwards about that, He knows more about things like that than anybody I know. He asked me "How could ETs improve more than 60' times?". I told him "I don't know, I just keep seeing guys talk about that on the internet." His reply was I needed to stay off the internet. LOL!

A car with enough power to run 132 MPH should at least 60" in the low 1.30s even foot braking it. 10.29 ETs for a normally aspirated 132 MPH car is a bit off. Should be very low tens at least. Fixing the 60' times would take care of that.

Re: 60 ft. Question

I have a friends car to drive and it was mine a few years ago.

It's a '97 Firebird LT-1 Stocker. He made some improvements since I owned it and it's a little faster now....

When I owned it I think my best 60' was around 1.32 or 1.34 and I ran some 10.50s in real good air..

A few weeks ago I had a 1.29 60' and ran 10.53 carrying more weight than when I ran the car.....I also had some 1.31-1.32 60's a week earlier at my local track.....Car weight was about 3150lbs. All runs have always been off the footbrake....no 2 step...

Big wheelies are pretty std on any of these cars and this one gets up pretty good at times.......
