Re: 396 Block
Bobby, the one you are talkng about, is and was worth some money. When i had my 69 car, a guy quoted me $3000.00 and that was in 1993!

Re: 396 Block
Checked the casting number and it's a 961. Thanks for the info. I'm building a 396/350 combo but thanks for the offer.

Re: 396 Block
Bobby, sell the 396 block to a guy doing a restoration, I can get you a Dart 396 block, and you'll probably have enough left for pistons, and maybe rods. You'll be a lot better off. It'll make more power, too.

Re: 396 Block
All of the aftermarket blocks seem to have a 4.250 bore, the 396 .060 is 4.155, 402 is 4.185. Does anybody make a sm. bore block, the only other option would be sleeving down a 454 block. Does anybody out there have one thats been done that they want to sell. John gsa612

Re: 396 Block
The plan is to sell the block. I was just getting info about the worth to a restorer. I have 3 396 blocks at my disposal right now so I'm good in that department. Is it worth spending the money to have the block bead blasted, or should I leave it as is?

My machinist sleeved a 454 block down for my car. It has worked out very well. We ordered a second set of Darton sleeves and did a second block at the same time while we were all set up for the job. I believe he would sell the second block, as we have never needed it in our program. If you will PM me or email with your contact info, I'll get you in touch with him. He could also do the CNC boring/honing to your requirements, align hone and square it, install cam bearings, etc if needed. Shipping might cost a few bucks, whatever the actual cost is, we're up in the Northwest. I also have a spare 396 block #3916323 date code J 8 7 which I believe to be Oct 8, 1967 and according to Mortec is a 1968 block. I'd appreciate anyone chiming in with the value on that block, or if anyone needs it let me know. Grant Eldridge E/SA 6650 grant4060@yahoo.com |
