Pat, thank you for your help. Guys, he really is sharp and knows what he is talking about. Ask him about a ING coil and wait for the response. I chased a problem for almost a year, changed absolutely everything, he made one suggestion, no charge. I did what he said and it helped my problem. So I will say again, thanks Pat you will get a ING from me this year to checkout and upgrade.

They are extremely sharp. I called to ask about a MSD on my dyno and he told me what coil to use, which help quite a bit, but I put a scope on the box and I still didnt like it so I sent the MSD box to them for their update. really looked great on scope and has never faltered. Have sent many of my customer that way.

Pat - When you say to use the Autozone/Carquest coils with the 6AL, are you talking about the older analog box or the newer digital box? What is the downside to using the blaster2? Thanks, Phil

Good Morning

The great questions keep coming, a couple of the common ones are coil matching. For a MSD 6al we recommend either an Autozone C-839 or Carquest FD-478 rather than a Blaster ll. For under $35 dollars and a couple of made up mounting feet you are good to go. As for a MSD 7al2, MSD 7AL3, & the MSD Digital 7 units you can use the MSD 8251 retail around $135. Yes, there is the MSD 8261 coil, if you want the Bling factor than thats the coil for you. :) Thanks again for the questions and Good Hunting at the final races of the season!

I use the Digital 7 box, and I used to run the Hvac II coil 8261 till I was told by someone that the MSD 8251 coil was a much better coil and had less failure rate.

The coils I mentioned are for the MSD 6series analog boxes, the Blaster II's ( cylinder style) heat soak quick and loose performance once that happens. The TFI style coils don't heat soak and have solid output for any length of time of use. The coil for best effort for the MSD 6al2 boxes would be the MSD 8253 coil. When your trying to run an index or the same every pass then a drifting coil is not what you want. I hope this helps.

Thanks Pat, I appreciate the info. Phil

Any thoughts on the Crane Fireball coils? I'm using the PS91 pn730-0091 on a couple of the cars with MSD boxes, 2 with a 6al and 1 with a digital 7.

So,,, When using an MSD 6AL-2 (digital) is an 8253 a good choice for a street car over the blaster 2. Is it worth the extra $140 ?
What is the difference between the 8251 / 8252 / 8253 ?
Thanks for the input.. I'm just replacing my 20+ year old 6AL and Blaster 1... looks like I should have bought more coil.

I spoke to you about two years ago, when you told me about the cheaper coils. I misunderstood you and have been using the Autozone C-839 on my 7AL-2. The car runs fine and does not seem to miss, but don't seem to rev up as fast as it should. My question is have I created a problem.
