'67,'68,69 Pontiac Firebirds

What body changes were different on these cars? I know that a '67 Camaro has a vent window whereas the '68'69's do not? I believe that the '67.'68 Camaro's have the gas tank filler behind a cap while the '69 has it behind the license plate. Are these the same on the Firebird or are there other differences also?

Yes those are some of the differences. Also the 68 and up have side marker lights, the 67's dont.

As mentioned, the 67's have the vent window, and the 68's have the side markers. Only other body panel difference that I know of between the 67 and 68 is the lower front valance. The 67 front turn signals are straight across and the 68's actually curve around to the side. Fenders, doors, hood, trunk lid and both bumpers are the same on the 67 and 68.

The 69 has many changes.

One easy way to see the differences is to go to ebay, and pull up cars. Several of each year listed, and some pretty good pictures for reference.

67 doors won't fit on 68. Hinges are moved. Rear floor is different as the driveshaft tunnel is raised for more clearence in 68. Rear shocks are staggered in 68.

More:
67 doors have vent windows, 68 does not.
68-69 have "Astro Ventilation" vents in the door jambs.

69 key switch is on steering coluum.
*** 67 business coupe came without a back seat( i think that's what they called it.

I think in 1968 (or 69) all make cars had to have side marker lights for a safety law

I've heard this before but my 67 has 68 doors on it? We bought the car in 1987.

The 68 hinges are both stamped. 67 's have one that's forged or cast . 3 bolt, too, I seem to remember.

Take a close up picture and post it. I'd like to see this.

Thanks, I suspected if the Camaro had as many differences as it does then the Firebird would also. However, it's difficult to identify these differences in photos and I knew that you guys would know the specific differences.

Mark, you are correct. The hinge location is the same, the top hinge construction is different. You can bolt a 68 door onto a 67, but you must use 68 hinges on a 68 door and vice versa.
