that manifold was used on US Army personell carriers from the late 50's to the early 60's---they originally came with a carter wcfb carb on a 283 engine I think it was a M135 carrier if my memory is right---comp

Re: Intake info

The M113 was diesel powered while the smaller M114 was powered by the 283 Chevy rated at 160hp.
In Viet Nam the m114 was a scout version and was underpowered and under armored and mostly gone by the late '60's.
I remember racers scouring military junkyards looking for those motors.

Before the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) got the Detroit Diesel, it had a small-block Chrysler (old poly-sphere). They would flood out at the worst possible times, and the engine was so tight against the right side bulkhead you had to be a contortionist to change plugs. I was very glad to see the A1 model fielded!

And on the 113 you can't forget the deluxe plywood "swim panel" to keep the front slope from turning vehicle into a submarine.

Re: Intake info

I believe the "early" 113's had a Chrysler 361, not a small block. the 114's were 283's. They sounded fast, but weren't. ha ha

I spent plenty time in a M113. I could even sleep in it while it was moving. Just hold on to the strap and nod away.
