Too much power on the street???
How much would be considered too much power for a street car? Car would be a classic style muscle car WITHOUT traction control and normal tires. Use of the car would be driving back and forth to work in the country and to the occasional game or dinner. Being fast at the track is not overly important. Goal is just a fun street car for the family and I.

Re: Too much power on the street???
Personally, Id say 300 - 350 (to the tires). That should be more than adequate, to have a wonderful time and be nice and easy to drive on the street. What kind of car are we talkin about?

Re: Too much power on the street???
For what you have described, anything more than enough power to have a mid 12 second fun street car is too much. Building a mid 12 second car is easily to do today without losing any street manners or comforts of a real street car and you'll be quicker than 99% of the cars on the road as well those you might see at cruise meet.

Re: Too much power on the street???
If you are a mopar guy it is easy to build a big block A Body that will run deep
into 11 Sec. Range and still be a fun low tech Driver. Example: I have a 1969 Valiant with a stock short block 440 with cast 9:1 pistons and a 220 @ .050 cam and single 120lb. seat springs. It has 20,000 Miles on rebuilt with 3.91 gear and stock 340 mopar converter. It weighs 3400 lb. with me in it. Last time out it ran 11.64 @111.82 on pump gas thru 2 1/2 exhaust on street tires. The weather station was 3000 +. Every body at LVMS know the car it has been Pro Track Champion before. and usually finishes near the top ever single year. If you can live with 8 MPG you can drive it anywhere! |
Re: Too much power on the street???
How much is too much HP for the street? Ask those guys that run Hot Rod magazine's Drag Week competition,,, like Larry Larson and his '66 Nova. He goes to LVMS and runs a 6.93 @ 211, and then an hour later, he cruising the Las Vegas strip. Go to Youtube and check him out.
