trailer winch upgrade
Racers,
I need to update/upgrade my trailer winch. It has gradually gotten noisy and weak and never was very good in the beginning. I have a 2800 pound door car to pull up the ramp door on an enclosed trailer. Let me hear what some of you are using with good results. I want something that will get with it and not be "straining" to do the job. |

This is an upgrade from my 3500DC, had it for years never failed. |
Re: trailer winch upgrade
I have not had any luck with the lighter duty winches from both Warn or Superwinch. Both were weak and gave up in just a few seasons. You need one of the more heavy duty models. I now have one that I bought at Harbor Freight for about $100. It has lasted real well. It has the roller fairlead and a hand held remote. The button on the remote did not last long but I just replaced it with a 2 position toggle switch. Not bad for the money.

Re: trailer winch upgrade
I've got the 4500 Super winch, pulling 3000 lb. car doesn't even phase it. It's a bit slower than my old winch I'm sure due to the gear reduction however it pulls what I hook to it. Don't think you can go wrong with them, mine has the 30 ft. remote so I can load by myself, you could also add a wireless remote to it. Joe

Re: trailer winch upgrade
Hi,
We bought a SuperWinch 4500 10 years ago. It pulls a 3800# car into the trailer with no problem. The winch has worked flawlessly since new... I only wish that I were using it more often... Bob |
Re: trailer winch upgrade
X3 on the 4000 lb. Superwench.
Get the remote control option. It realy makes it nice to load by yourself. Mark Madison |
Re: trailer winch upgrade
I have one of the "cheap" Harbor Freight 6000 lb units.
It does the job, maybe a bit slower than I would like, but it does the job. But it's nice to hear that the $100 Harbor Freight units with the rollers sound nice too. I would think one of the $400-600 Warner units would fit the bill for anybody's needs. |
Re: trailer winch upgrade
Which is better, the cable or the rope.

Re: trailer winch upgrade
I'll chime in on this one and agree with everyone on the Superwinch 4500.
Spend the extra $$ here and avoid overworking the unit and asking for issues down the road. I got the remote control as a X-Mas gift last year from the wife and man it is sweeeeet! Drop one in the suggestion box for X-Mas next year? Just sayin |
