Roll cage question
A question for the stock eliminator racers. Thanks,I recently purchased a Camaro and would like to run it in NHRA stock eliminator. Problem is the Camaro has a full 12-point roll cage already installed. I believe this is illegal for stock eliminator from what I have read in the NHRA rule book, but some have told me that it is fine. Is it legal or not? I know somethings pass inspection and are allowed even though the rule books says they are prohibited (e.g. OEM rockers and Holroyd modification). So do I have to cut out the part of the cage that passes the firewall or not? John |

You can have a full interior roll cage (provided it is built according to the rule book). In Stock, no bars can be forward of the firewall.
I would cut the bars at the inside of the firewall, cap them with a 4" square plate and bolt the four corners to the firewall. Ideally you could sandwich the firewall with plates on both side but that may be a grey area. Somebody will chime in. |

I would invest a call to your division Chassis Certification personnel. With 9 second vehicles now running in Stock I wouldn't be surprised if that rule is revisited or redefined. In most cars the forward bars are welded to the inner fender panels and strictly interpreted total removal to comply is impractical. Maybe simply a 6"-12" cutoff to disconnect them from the main cage would satisfy them and leave a simple repair available should forward bars be allowed in the future. Worth a phone call to avoid a waste of time.
