Long Shifter Question

I placed an order for a new pistol grip shifter today from Nick at long Shifters. He suggested a 14" tower over the standard 12" tower. He said for non clutchless transmissions it really helps in pulling out of gear. I got to thinking, 14" is awful long but only 2" longer than the standard shifter. My question is, how do they measure the tower? From the very bottom to the top? I just hope it isn't too long!

Re: Long Shifter Question

The reason for suggesting the longer handle is the added leverage and velocity you get when pulling & pushing the shifter. The additional 2" handle started as a prototype for John & Carolyn Melendy (Goldylocks) in order for Carolyn to be comfortable in shifting her SS car. The longer handle corrects the angle for your elbow, shoulder, and wrist to shift with! As soon as I saw it, and got the reasoning for the increased lenght, I sent my shifter back for the modification.
I believe it's measured from the point where the handle bolts to the shifter body.
