Smaller Tires
I am using a 28" tire and am considering going to a 27". From experience how much did it pick or slow the car/reaction and 60 ft? Thanks

Re: Smaller Tires
Nolan,
I've been thinking along the same lines, did you ever get any response? Unk |
Re: Smaller Tires
I don't know the number off hand, but a smaller tire with the same air pressure and staging/launching the same way as with a taller tire, will result is a slightly faster reaction time while slowing 60' and the rest of the elapsed times down a bit down the track.
A shorter tire takes less time to clear the starting line beams for a quicker RT while getting less of a running start before clearing the beams and actually starting the ET clocks. |
Re: Smaller Tires
I believe 1" shorter would be about .01 quicker R.T

Re: Smaller Tires
I went from 28" Hoosiers to 27.5 M/T & saw no change.... that being said I can't drive this dam car on the starting line. I have a 2-step going in before Indy Div. !

Re: Smaller Tires
If I remember correctly I went from 26'' to 28'' I think it was about .030-.040 it has been awhile. I recommend you measure the tires what is on sidewall isn't always same as measurement.27'' in one tire may measure same as a 28'' especially from one brand to the next.
An example I have 9X29 Goodyears on back of my car my brother ran 9X29.5 M/T they are 2-3'' bigger every direction than my tires, front runners probaly are'nt as variable in size but I would measure. Mike Taylor 3601 |
