Re: galaxie lightweights
There's a article about a couple of Galaxie drag cars and a few others that showed up at the Barrett Jackson auction several years ago...

Production comprised the last ten cars off the assembly line (an eleventh car was built later); all were based on the lighter 6-cylinder production frame and were fitted with fiberglass hoods, front fenders and trunk lid. More weight was saved with aluminum bumpers, brackets and inner fenders, and carpets, sound deadener, seam sealers, radio and heater were deleted. The 1962 Galaxie lightweight offered here was raced by Phil Bonner, who received it as a replacement for one earlier destroyed in a towing accident. Like its brethren, it is powered by Ford’s 406/405 HP V-8, the first early-Sixties Ford engine equipped with dual Holley 4-barrels atop an aluminum intake. Presented from the Ellis Collection, it retains its original combination of Wimbledon White, Blue bucket seat interior and Al Means Ford racing livery. - Approximately 11 cars built by Ford for drag-racing - Originally a "G" code 406/405 - No sound deadener or seam sealers - Aluminum front bumpers, fiberglass front fenders, trunk lid - Radio and heater were eliminated - Lighter bucket-style seats replaced the stock bench. - Delivered to racer Phil Bonner. Ownership of the car was transferred to the respective racer for the sum of a dollar, thus relieving Ford Motor Company of any liability. 1962 Bonner Lightweight Galaxie's owner history: - Produced by Ford Wayne Michigan Plant August 2, 1962. - Late 1962, Phil Bonner - Mid-1963 to May 1964, Marcus Moore - May 1964 to April 1966, Waner Hardie - April 1966 to July 1988, Bobby Dixon/Don Lanthrip - July 1988 to March 2007, E. Edwin Lavender - March 2007 to Present, Ellis Collection. |

Re: galaxie lightweights
As I remember the 62 lightweight Gaxlies used 6 cylinder chassis as they were lighter and the 63's had the 6 cylinder chassis!
