"Scotty" Rule?

I'm an SC guy, so this is an admittedly stupid question from left field, but what's the "Scotty Rule" and how did it get that name?

Thanks :)

The Scotty Rule was named after Scotty Richardson who in the 1990's ran Super Street and Super Comp and/or Super Gas. He won many Super Street races and there were many complaints about his winning so many races. Hence the Scotty rule that any Super Street racer cannot enter another category at that same race.

I am old and witnessed it or I would not know either.

Maybe renaming it to the "Ruff Rule" would help our younger racers. Big Mike was a real bear in S/ST and it's not changed with his changing classes. But Scotty was just about unbeatable in that black and yellow firebird. Personally though I think the days of anyone running roughshod over S/ST are over. I voted to eliminate the Scotty Rule just like the majority responding to the poll on this forum.

From what I hear......the majority is voting against it....

So I assume the idea is that Super Street is supposed to be an "entry level" class and they're trying to stop the pit bulls from eating the ducks?

I'd prefer the analogy of trying to stop "higher budget" racers from interloping in the "lower budget" territory. Kind of like the Sprint Cup drivers competing in the Nationwide series. I don't necessarily think there are more ducks in S/ST than in any other class. It takes a strong string of packages (and occasional luck) to win ANY class.

It appears that when most race Scotty in comparison to others that their Transbrake finger sweats a little bit more, causing a ton of red lights.

Yep...he ran the backhalved yellow and black car (69 Firebird?) Slick 50 car in Super Street. I figured that's where the rule name came from.

I think that NHRA should ask racers in other classes what their opinion on this issue is. I was hoping this would get changed so that I would be able to race my IHRA Crate Motor Stocker in Super Street at a few select Division 3 events this year.
