New guy with a question?
I know from reading these forums that the New Car's fitting into stock is an issue with those who have spent countless $ and effort making their cars competitive and I totally understand having raced 63-64 Plymouths in stock/Superstock.
I am however looking at the possibility of getting a 2012 Mustang 5.0 to run in E/SA-F/SA (providing NHRA allows) Just looking for advice since I plan to retire in about 3 years and was looking for something to take into retirement which could be fun like it was back in the late 60's racing. Not wanting to set National records, just be able to run the index, be competitive. Thanks TC |

There are some on this forum that will give you nothing but negative opinions on Class Racing. Its a small minority but they do yell the loudest. As you read this forum over time you will see what members are helpful and for the most part, positive. You will also see the members that have nothing good to say about NHRA period. The 2012 5.0 from what I have been told will be in the books for 2012. It is a good engine, well designed and should be a blast to drive. Enjoy your retirement and welcome back to Class Racing. |

TC - Buy whatever you can afford - jump in the waters fine ..... and most of us who are competing on a regular basis are having just as much fun as ever - me , I'm having the best of times . And its not necessary to have a 2012 model to have fun . Today , unlike years ago , racers are much more social and going to the track isn't just about the cars but about having a nice time with current friends and making new ones .
Here on ClassRacer is a good place to start as there are many who will help you both pick out the right car for your retirement plans and get it built . Good luck .............. |

Thanks Guys......Believe me I know I chased points from 1969-1974 in Div. 5 stock/superstock and it finally got to where I couldn't afford to keep up. Ended up bracket racing for the last 25 years.
I know it wll never be like it was . I tend to look back and remember the good times. I'm just getting into this computer tuned,4-cam modular engine thing, but I could see having a street driven E/SA-F/SA Mustang, Going to the track,change to Hoosier radials,open headers,Race tune/gas and being competitive. Not record holding. That to me is what I mean about the past. IT was a lot of fun without the huge investment. Thanks again, TC |

It's not like it was when we ran off of records, but it is still better than straight bracket racing. When I first tried drag racing again, I ran local no-e brackets. Got tired of giving head starts to big block cars on methanol, just racing a shoe polish bottle. Racing dumbed down. At least we/they have to know a little bit to run under the indexes. I personally like the challenge of performance standards and trying to run with the rest in my class much better than just racing the shoe polish bottle.
If you liked it before, you will still like it better than straight bracket racing. NHRA and their tech guys catch a lot of flack. I admire them for doing the job they do. If it weren't for them we would have no place to play. We would all be stuck with show polish racing, or "index" racing which is the same except they don't get to change the dial. Probably will cost more than you remembered. Lol |
