Erson Cams

I'm looking at a Erson solid roller cam for a SBC...Anyone running a Erson cam, and what has your experience been?

Re: Erson Cams

I bought my first one through PBM just lately. It is a SBC roller grind and looks very nice. Nice radius at each lobe, very smooth finish, looks like very high quality.

When taking with the tech person I was pleasantly surprised. I left a message, he called back within the hour. We exchanged all the usual/expected info for choosing a cam plus a few questions/comments that increased my confidence with the Company.

The engine has not been fired, will be doing so next week. The engine and car are a new build up so no history for comparison. However, I have a confident feeling about the Company.

If you want the tech person I talked with send a PM.

I myself prefer Crane Cams and they use the 8620 cores I like (gold/copper color between lobes)

Erson uses a Camshaft Machine Core and their have been more cases where this core the ICL is off (not the grinders problem, the maker of the core)

They claim there is a master lobe to grind from in simple terms or the dowel. If they grind off the dowel to make it perfect hooked to a timing set it can go through the heat treat but if they grind off the "master lobe" it will be perfect but your ICL may be off

This is why you see so many with CMC cores and ICL's way off when they dont degree the cam, no big issue just degree it

Crane's 8620 cores are dead on and they do them in house just like they did before
