Wheelie Bar Help
 

What is the actual purpose of a wheelie bar? Is it keep the car from going over backwards or to keep the front end down or ?

On a properly set up Stock Eliminator or Super Stock car it is a safety device.

On a full tube chassis car like a Comp car or a Pro Stock car, as well as Pro Mod and Top Sportsman, they are a safety device and a chassis tuning device.

Joe, I really can't explain too much about it, as I don't have enough hands on experience in how it works. It's just that I know some guys who run those classes and those cars, and I know that they use the bars, mostly the height of the wheels, to tune the way the car works. It's easy to see them doing it, watch them measure the height of each wheel to verify it behind the starting line.

joe in the faster classes , comp,top sportsman ,ps. ext. the wheelie bar is used in many ways to tune. you can raise or lower it to control the wheel speed. also the side to side height is staggered to help steer the car by unloading one side more than the other.
as far stockers with wheelie bars go. i feel they are more of a safety device to keep things from getting out of hand. unless the car has suspension device like say the pete z bars, or something similar that won't allow the housing to rotate a bunch. like say a cal-trac would. you realy can't steer the car with it accurately. because as the the wheelie bar makes contact with the ground it, unwinds the spring, as well as unloadling the tires.
