Cooling question
 

I need to improve my cooling setup in my 86 camaro G/S 305 car

Currently I have a stock type alum water pump with a moroso motor style drive and a plastic 6? blade fan. Factory alum radiator with the factory shroud that only shrouds the top half of the fan.

The car doesn't run hot, it just takes too long to cool between rounds.

I have just one battery up front, and I like the setup I have as far as current draw, but I think the main problem is that it doesn't circulated the water fast enough. For weight reasons I would like to stick with the one battery.

Do the aftermarket pumps and fans draw alot more current ? has anyone ever checked that kind of stuff ? or is it just charge the battery all the time ? What do you see racers that race all the time using ?

Dave, An auxiliary electric fan and an overdrive pulley for the Moroso unit will bring the temp down in a hurry... And yes , you have to hook it up to the big ol' Schumacher between every round.
I don't race much , but I DO know this.... LOL

Dave,

Mark is right on about Fan & Pulley and use a high powered battery...
Things to try ; Get a Grand National type fan and attach to radiator... Yes, it draws, but it works great along with a good water pump.... I found the Moroso type water pumps have been cheapened and don't last long .. Put a good electric type with a Grand National electric fan & forget about your cooling problems ..
You will need a good Battery charger .... Good Luck.....

Ditto......Also we drain and change water between rounds if needed especially with filled block motors or stop a water box if available. Also spray water on radiator....just mop up after. 14 tooth pulley really helps by itself and so does full shroud (split in two if need) around existing fan

Dave, I had same problem, I put a restrictor in the thermostat housing, it cut the water flow down. Cools down a lot faster now
