pusher fan air flow improvement
i can only use a pusher fan [for various reasons]. it appears that a lot of air blows off to the side, rather than blowing thru the rad. core. i tried a thin sheet metal hoop, fastened to the fan frame. turns out, that is where the blades get their air. so that didn't work.
currently have a 14", but a 16" could be a replacement. that's 47 square inches more coverage. does any co. make an 18"? is there anyway to improve air flow with a pusher? ideas/thoughts? |

I'm wrestling with this same problem, too. The issue I'm having is getting the car to cool down after a pass. It seems like it takes longer than it should to get from 200 down to 150, and I'm attributing that to my pusher set-up. Running the fan and water pump that long is also taking a toll on my charging system.

I had the same issue a few years ago, I switched to a fan that was rated at more CFM and that did the trick.

Try a Spal fan - the difference in airflow will suprise you.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard of Spal; I'll look into them. CFM is important, so is amp draw.
Of course, part of my issue could simply be my own fan going bad and running slower over time. It's at least 12 years old. |

Make sure you use a fan motor that puts out enough CFM. A lot of the aftermarket units are designed to be used in conjunction with the stock fan, not by itself.
We used a unit in our Chevelle from a Cadillac XLR. It is a puller type. The fan and shroud is a stand alone unit. No cooling problems and moves a lot of air. It also fit like with little alteration. |
