2 Or 4 Bolt?

Looking at building a Super Stock 396/375 motor. Would you guys go with a 4-bolt for this combo, or would a 2-bolt with studs be sufficient? Thanks, Justin

If your going to compete against that class, better not hold anything back! I'm sure there is a few with 2-bolts but with the RPM's those 396's are going, I would have a 4-bolt.
I converted my 390 AMC to 4-bolt with Pro-Gram billet caps while I was in Stock.

Honestly, your best bet is a BowTie block, but you'll find a small bore standard deck BowTie block hard to come by, although you can find a big bore version and sleeve it down with flanged sleeves. After that, consider a two bolt 454 block, converted to steel splayed caps, filled with Hard Block, and sleeved down to 396 bore size, with flanged sleeves, and the lifter bores trued by opening them up to 0.904".

You're going to be up around 8800 RPM, and close to 800HP or more to be competitive.

I have a late 1965 dated std. bore 396 two bolt casting # 3855961 which is from a 1966 360 hp Chevelle. These early castings were commonly bored to use 4.250 pistons from a 427. You could Hard Block it and add four bolt caps. I was just going to put it on E-bay with a $400. reserve. I am in Muskegon, Mich. if you are interested. Fred Lee 231-740-5534 cell
