Thank you!
After a 2 1/2 year hiatus so I could pay for law school, medical emergencies, a wedding and a house remodel I finally got to go racing last weekend in Woodburn, Oregon. I was nervous, had nightmares about how to do my burnout, hoping I wouldn't look like an idiot. It was so surreal, the minute I fired the car up it all felt so natural. How I have missed the drag strip!!
My weekend didn't last long. A nut from my air filter base worked its way loose, down the carb, in the manifold, through a few cylinders. Preliminary analysis shows I dodged a bullet and the damage appears to be limited to some bent valves. The cylinder walls look fine and it doesn't look like anything got in the short block. Whew! So, hopefully, I will be back out soon. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to thank the many people who helped to get me to the track. We all know mechanics is not my greatest attribute and it took a small army to get me up and running again. Don Little: my engine builder and almost-brother, who has somehow got stuck with the mechanics of my Volare. I'm in good hands. Steve Wann: thanks for installing the motor, tranny, etc. More free tax returns for you. ;-) Congrats on becoming a Grandpa! Dad: you got me in this mess! Thanks for everything. Jared: I know you felt so bad but stuff happens. I bet we won't have a loose nut ever again, next time it will be something else! I'm so glad you got to go with us. Thanks for all the running around you did to help get the car ready to go. Now get your law career going so you can buy your own stocker and we can race side-by-side! Mark: my chauffeur. You told me once you would tow me wherever I wanted to go and you haven't gone back on that promise. Thank you. Wes Libby, Jim Storms, Bill Bushmaker: thanks for all the help after I broke, offering to do more. You epitomize why we all love drag racing, the wonderful people who make up the sport. Thank you! |
Re: Thank you!
Julie,
What you have written is just one more proof that the friends we have at the drag strip are truely family. Happy to see that you were able to bring the car back out and you will be repaired and back at it soon. |
Re: Thank you!
Good to see you back out and at it Julie! Hope you will have everything repaired very soon. Jim

Julie, it was nice to see you at the track again. Hopefully you can get it all fixed for Sonoma. Hope to see you there.

Re: Thank you!
Very nice Julie!
Glad you got out to race. You had to have more fun than I did behind the keyboard. Get it fixed, get back out soon. Good luck! Jeff |
Re: Thank you!
Jewel,
You just need to spend a lot more time in the garage than you do in that new kitchen of yours!! |
