LT-1 vs.LS-1 1998 F-body Stocker question?

Can someone shed some light on this for me? Approx. how many '98 model year Camaro and/or Firebirds were built w/LT-1 350" motors? I was under the impression all produced were 346" LS-1 motored cars for the '98 model year and 1997 was the last model production year for the 350" LT-1, except for the Corvette, which got the LS-1 in '97......Or is this a NHRA-stocker-eligibility-only-thing? Maybe this was discussed before....if so, sorry, I missed it....Thanks in advance. WJ

Doesn't make any difference.

If NHRA says both engines are eligble in '98, that how it be.

You can only race LT-1 in '98 model no LS-1 motor may race in '98 trim..

That is something I surely did not know..........Never did see a factory '98 LT-1 on the street, but were a bunch of '98 LS-1 cars around here...Know after the LS-1 '98 cars, there were numerous computer/wire harness and other changes on the LS-1 come '99 model yr. Thanks, Bob. WJ

Yup zero were actually made with LT1 engines in them. All were LS1's. It's been discussed here many times before.

What I have never understood with all the controversy on this, is why, if you want to race a late LT-1, not call the car a 1997 Camaro / Firebird? Aren't the specs of a '97 & '98 F-Body LT-1 the same? And correct me once again but isn't a '97-'98 F-body indistinguishable?

Jeff, the 97 Firebird has a single headlight setup, the 98 is has a dual headlight setup. They look a fair amount different.

Camaro's and Firebird's are different between the two years. Alot different on the Camaro. LT-1's in 1998 should not have been allowed, it helps justify paper cars that did not ever roll off a production line, like some of the more recent new stockers.
