stupid brake question

Hey guys my buddy has a "Pro-Street" Chevette he's trying to put a line-loc on it...he took the front line on master cyl & put the line-loc on it but...it went to the back brakes?? is this right? All the lines around the proportioning valve "LOOK" factory....also when he hits the brakes hard "LOOKS" like the rear slides & the fronts don't?? The car has factory disk up front & some big *** drums in the rear! (also running a set of those 15X33 M/T Sportsmans)

my master cylinder front resevoir goes to my line lock and it locks the front brakes, it is the stock master cylinder and stock proportioning valve with front discs and rear drums. Is his parts oem or aftermarket? either way it doesnt sound right, the large front resevoir should operate the front brakes

Re: stupid brake question

Well it's all OEM...BUT the large resevoir is the back one on his master cyl?

Alittle different than I have seen but my assumption would be that is for the front brakes, being as it is the larger resevoir. I replaced my brake lines with new ones and I dont recall an option of front or rear res. master cylinders. My next ? would be is it a manual or power brake car? mine was a power brake but I ditched the booster and modified the push rod. when I order the brake lines the only ?'s were if it was power or manual and disc or drum.

Re: stupid brake question

The larger reservoir is for the front disc's, because they need more fluid pushed to them. Somewhere "down-stream" from the regulating/proportioning valve should be a block that splits the brake pipes for the front brakes. That's normally the easiest place to plumb the line-lock into the system. Most of the popular solenoids have two outlet fittings so they will work without too much effort. If that's not the case, an adjustable proportioning valve can be installed.

And BTW - there are NO stupid questions!! :D

Sorry Lew.
I had a college Professor that disagreed with you about "No stupid Questions". It is a stupid question if you already know the answer.

Adger,

My Command Sergeants Major always told me that "the only stupid question is the one that hasn't been asked"! Of course, we're talking about a whole different audience. :o

"There are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions." I would have him trace the lines. The line lock should lock the brakes only after pressure is applied also. Using the button alone should not lock the brakes. Also, I doubt the brakes are OEM so I would sure trace the lines.
