More Consistant (Lean or Rich)

I have tried to run my SBC lean to be consistant and tried to run rich all on 94 octane. Has anyone have any info on (running lean in spring or rich) or in the heat of the summer (lean or rich) to try and keep the feul consistant.Thanks.

In my opinion, being too rich, especially in summer, is only going to give you grief.

Being a little bit lean makes my combo less sensitive to weather changes, but it also won't pick up as much as it should when the air cools.

If you want your weather station predictions to match reality, my experience has been that it is best to have the jetting optimized- wherever it runs quickest. I find that if I optimize in normal summer weather, I don't have to change jets until October. Normal in summer for the near sea-level tracks I go to is DA at 2200-3200, and I don't change metering rods until it gets down to around 1400 or less.

You can get other opinions on this at the websites for companies that sell weather stations. Crew Chief Pro and Biondo Products both address this question, if I remember correctly.

Thanks.
So if you are on the lean side this should keep it some what consistant, what if you keep it lean, and retard or advance the motor for consistancy?

Re: More Consistant (Lean or Rich)

I would be afraid to advance the timing on top of running lean and using 94 octane gas. If you try it and the car slows, I recommend undoing it immediately, as it is probably detonating.

I don't know how retarding the ignition affects consistency, never did that on purpose. The headers will get hotter, maybe even glow, but otherwise it shouldn't hurt anything.

If you try it, please post your results.
