12 Bolt Recommended Fluid Level
I have a 12 bolt with a stripped out fill plug in the stock housing so in the past I have always just added 2 quarts of fluid and called it good through the fill plug on the top of the aftermarket rear cover. But this time around when i was inspecting the inside of the housing on a fluid change it dawned on me that the cast aluminum cover probably holds additional fluid and I really do not know if I had the correct amount in there to begin with.
How much fluid should be run in this application. I am using the Richmond Synthetic gear lube. Thanks, Chad |
Re: 12 Bolt Recommended Fluid Level
I usually put in 1 1/2 to 2 quarts when using an LPW or T/A cover. .....I know guys who use only 1 quart with no problems ........If you are not experiancing any bearing problems or heat issues with the gears , I'd leave it as is. ........It's more important to be using a quality gear lube. ..........Tom
