Crankshaft Specialist Company, Mamphis Tn
I am looking for a company to hard chrome a stocker crankshaft. Has anyone had their crankshaft worked on by CrankShaft Spacialist in Mamphis, Tn? Any information will be greatful. It is better to ask for feedback before I send my crankshaft to someone that will not do a good job. Thanks,

I used them years ago when Bobby Rowe ran it with excellent results but the internet shows a lot of complaints and lawsuits

Pretty tough to beat the quality of Mile High Crankshaft in Colorado. JB

Re: Crankshaft Specialist Company, Memphis Tn
Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I would very much like to stick with a hard chrome crank. The crank I have now has been hard chromed and the bearings never need to be replaced. When rebuilding the engine, I just reuse the old bearings because they look like they just came out of the box. It is just that simple. Before having the crank hard chromed, I needed to change the rod bearings every 20 to 30 runs.

Re: Crankshaft Specialist Company, Mamphis Tn
Only complaints I ever heard is price was never what was quoted. Also if you have cracked crank don't let them convince you cracks are only few thousands deep and won't hurt anything.I had customer with cracked crank told him to scrap they told him usaully cracks are only few thousands deep and don't hurt anything Make long story short he sent crank to them had checked they said was'nt hurt only way could be better was to build back std.w chrome cost quite bit more than was supposed to ran 8-10 passes wiped out
his mains again because it was cracked and flexing was'nt anything wrong with there work on chrome or sizing just did it to broke crank. I always tell people it may be small crack in block, head, crank but it's not going to get smaller it will only get bigger. If you have good crank to work with and can get price that they will stick to then I say get them to do chrome work,If there's additional work that has to be done over original estimate and you ok it thats how it supposed to be but if you are give est. then get charged more with no additional work or explanation of why it was more that's wrong. just call Bullet and talk to John Partridge. All other companies wanted more money than him for the same "work". Race prepped, turned, stroked, indexed, deburred, balanced, polished snout and drilled-tapped end of crank (283). It cost right at $400 with shipping to my door.
It looked like a piece of jewelry when he was finished...... Wade |

Never had a bearing problem or issue in my life until we used them. Just trying to pick up a bit more. Like a food we let them fix the first one they screwed up. 4 passes the first and 7 the second time wasted 2 high dollar Crower rods, coated bearings, oil pump, gaskets, scored piston skirts from debri etc TWICE! Chrome just flaked off the crank both times. Sent the crank off to a independent for ananlysis to confirm what we suspected. Never had any bearing problems before or since. 9300 RPM and #9 full time. |
