G - Bodys in super stock
Racers,
is there a reasonable super stock GT class for a big block Chevy in a G body Regal? [1982 - 1986 Buick Regal] Maybe one of the 454 engine combinations? Thanks for any thoughts, Larry Woodfin |
Re: G - Bodys in super stock
I don't know about a Regal, but there have been a few guys that have run Monte Carlos, and Malibus with some good results. Is there any class that you had in mind? Also what engine combination where you thinking of using?

Re: G - Bodys in super stock
Put a big block Buick in it. A 71 or 72 combo is a good choice. I have a 71 GS running SS/KA with a 9 inch tire on and it runs well under the index. One day I would like to put the engine in a lighter G body car, preferably a Grand National body as I always liked those cars and run GT with it. The BBB has a favourable HP rating on it right now and with the right parts it runs well and stands up well.

Re: G - Bodys in super stock
If you're trying to go fast, a G body is the wrong combo. I have a Regal in GT and I like the looks, but at 108" wb and a drag coefficient of .410 it's .30 and 3-4 MPH behind a 3rd or 4th gen Camaro or Firebird with the same horsepower.

Re: G - Bodys in super stock
I strongly urge you NOT to build a big block, heavy big car, for gt. gary norman

Great decision you made going home after the National. |
Re: G - Bodys in super stock
Right, that "G" body hasn't worked out at all well for you, has it?
Leaving Phoenix was one of the few good decisions I've made lately. |
Re: G - Bodys in super stock
John, so I can get the 3 tenths back by just getting a more slippery body style? It sounds so easy!!!

Jody,
Call Gary Hettler. He'll give you all the reasons and examples. He was kind enough to tell me AFTER I had the car done. |
Re: G - Bodys in super stock
G-Body = rectangular block of cheese. 4th gen F-Body = wedge of cheese. Wonder which GM cuts thru the air better?? ;) WJ
