Question: Under acceleration stuck at 5000 RPM

I took the car out for the first time in a while last night. Burnout - OK, Launch off trans brake @ 4400 OK, then seems to come up against the rev limiter and can not get it past 5000.
Back to the pits and standing still it flashes up to 7000 and shift light comes on at 6600. ????????????

Three hits with all the same results.

Details:
6 al MSD with two step 4400 and 7000 RPM chips.

Is it possibly not coming off the two step after Launch?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Pull all the chips, footbrake it and shift manually for 1 run.

One step further, take the 2 step loose. I have had bad chip do this, and also had a bad 2 step do this.
Unhook 2 step, footbrake and shift by hand. See what you get.
Good luck.

Thank you for the replys.

I have another two step and some other chips. So I will run the test next time out and replace items as required.

Did it sit long enough for the valve springs to fade away?

Re: Question: Under acceleration stuck at 5000 RPM

Though it has not been to the track it has seen the street a fair amount. Though not really street friendly it manages to get me to a couple of cruises a month. So I would not think the springs are an issue but I will grab a set of gaskets and pull the covers to take a look and check them.

I still think it must be something to do with the MSD.
