we just got our stocker project ready to fire and we are thinking about what fuel we should be putting in the tank to fire it up. we were looking at the accepted fuel list on NHRA's site and if we aren't mistaken the lowest octane listed is 110. we were thinking with our low comprssion 302 this is way too much fuel for what we need is there something around 100 that will pass tech? we've heard people say that straight pump gas doesn't always pass.

I also run a low compression 302 in my 85 Mustang, but since NHRA requires an approved fuel, I normally run VP C12.About 6 years ago, I tried the VP Motorsport 110 which was on the approved list, and was quite a bit cheaper, but more often than not, it wouldn`t pass NHRA fuel check. I have heard of several others guys with the same problem, even with fresh fuel from a just opened drum. Since VP is the most popular in this area, I switched to C12, and have never flunked fuel check since. By the way, I have tried normal Chevron 89 & 91 octane pump gas at bracket races, and the car did run a bit faster with the lower grade pump stuff, but you have to ensure that it is all removed before switching back to the race gas, to enter a divisional or national event, as the contamination will alter the readings of the race gas.

I ran VP Sportsman(107) at IHRA events last year. I know a lot of guys who like the C11(104), despite its price and general scarcity; (compared to C12).

My car likes C11. Never a problem with fuel checks. I usually buy it at the track.

VP C10 unleaded in my 94 302 stocker. Runs .05-.10 faster on 91 octane pump gas.

Guys, Chuck O has the Torco purple at SW. It's about $7 per.
C-11 was worth about a nickle in my 9 to 1 350 Buick , over the 12, but i can't use it with the turbo because it's lower octane. Hope that helps.

thanks for all the info guys at least we have an idea where to start and which fuels to try out.

mark- we aren't sure yet. we hope to be there but it all depends on how the maintanace on the other cars goes i guess.
