Why is there NO '09 IHRA Stock & S/S World Points Champion ???

I've looked everywhere there is to look on the IHRA website and for the life of me I can't even find the Top-50 point standings for Stock/S/s much less who ended up being crowned the '09 World points Champion in IHRA Stock & S/s??? Does IHRA now only have World Points Champions in the Pro catagorys or what's the deal anyone know???

Myron...a IHRA Tournament of Champions your kidding right??? That's gotta be the dumbest thing IHRA has come up with yet to date isn't it?? The only way to crown or determine the World Champion is by points...the driver who has the most points at the end of the season in both Stock/S/s is crowned the IHRA '09 World Champion right ?? That's the way it's been done since the begining of time seems like it's always worked out pretty good that way why on earth would they change it now??? No wonder IHRA only gets 1/3 the amount of cars at a event compaired to NHRA lol !!!

NHRA used to do it the same way.

That was announced and continued to be promoted since about a year ago! It has its plusses & minuses. But I believe the main idea was to keep more people showing up through the end of the season by providing an opportunity for a shot at the World Championship for everyone through the end of the season without having to travel as much. With the bad economy, it's difficult to say how much it help or hurt car counts. But it was enough to IHRA Sportsman racing going.

You need to keep up with the IHRA news.

NHRA use to do something similar many years ago with their World Finals being an "invitational" for the championship. It may have been like that in 1980 when I went to NHRA's FIRST ET Bracket World Championship race at the World Finals in Ontario, CA! Both bracket programs are similar now also.

Guys pay attention & don't shoot the messenger because he speaks the truth.....the key thing to remember here is that NHRA "use to do it"....THEY DON'T DO IT THAT WAY NOW !!! Want to know why?? IT DIDN'T WORK that's why hello!!!! Myron are you telling me that if your in 1st place in Stock World points most of the entire season and got the next closest guy beat by 8 rounds points going into the last event of the year...then went to this Tourament of Champions deal & lost 1st rd. you'ed be happy NOT BEING THE WORLD CHAMPION??? Come on I don't buy that why on earth doesn't everyone complain to the IHRA brass big wigs & explain to them how stupid this is????

I think by the current way, a racer could run one race and win it, and win the tournament at the end of the year and be champion, right?

IHRA is FAR (VERY FAR) from being a "perfect organization",but how else could they crown a "World Champ"?
If they went to a format where you take your best 3 of 6 Nationals like NHRA,there probably wouldn't be more than 10 total people in the running for the "World Championship".
They don't have races any where near over half of the United States.
I know this isn't the best way to do it,but lets hear some better ideas.

For starters, the racers that support the divisions should be the only one's to have a shot at the "world championship" and not a one -shot wonder. Secondly, w/ all of the sports nationals they've set up now it's much easier to get national event points...still they could drop back to the best 2 of 3 nationals or something along those lines plus your divisonal points. Just my .02

I did say that the concept had its plusses and minuses. The examples you and mbrace5 gave would naturally be very frustrating, especially after doing it the other way ever since I started. But everyone is in the same boat. I don't make the rules, just follow them if I want to race. But "right now" IHRA feels that this will help keep sportsman racing viable for them and 2010 should give the final answer. As others have brought up, the geographic locations and economy make it difficult for more than the same dozen or dozen & a 1/2 people to be able to race for it. So it does provide more opportunities.

I also like Tracy's suggestion to minimize "one shot wonders".
