PG gear ratio?
Looking for some input for first gear ratio. What would you recommend for my car. 2850lbs 383 small block, 29" tire with 4.56 gears. Shifting at 7200 running through the traps at 7000. Cars been 10.20's at 130 foot braking it with 4000 stall glide and a 1.94 gear set. 4 link car. Just loosen the converter to 4800. 8" ATI converter. Smaller, bigger looking for opinions from experience. I'm new to automatics and the gear set broke so I need another one. Thanks, Vinny

1.94 or 1.98 should be fine for that combo, loosening the converter will help ALOT 4000 was to tight.

Re: PG gear ratio?
I ran a 355" sbc in a 2860# chevy II with a 1.76 glide 5.67 rear gear. Car went a best of 1.33 60' @ 9.86 and consistent 9.90's @132mph at 8200 rpm in cool weather. I put a 2.03 low gear and 5.43 rear gear. 60' times dropped to 1.30-1.29 and ran basically the same E.T. and mph at 7900 rpm. You will have more rpm drop at gear change with the lower gear ratio. Car has a 8" 5800 convertor and a 15" x 33" 105" roll out. I leave with the trans brake at 4200 rpm. The car was more consistent with the 2.03 low gear due to being able to transfer the weight better, and a whole lot more fun to drive! The 2.03 broke after about 350 runs. I put the good old reliable 1.76 back in for now! Hope this helps.
