slicks wear pattern
Question on reading wear pattern on my slicks. I run 17X32X15 (18280) Hooisers on a 15" rim, with 8 to 8 1/4 air pressure, 3100 pound car. On both the inside and outside of the tire, about an inch from the edges, there is a slighty rough gummy section about an inch wide. The middle of the tire stays smooth. Is this from running too narrow of a rim or too low air pressure? The specs says you can run a 15" rim. I rotate the tires but this does not seem to help...

Re: slicks wear pattern
It sounds like the car is pushing the rim into the track , I was also told rim size should plus or minus 1" form tire size.3100 lb. car should have a stiff side wall tire on it.

Re: slicks wear pattern
Your tire pressure should be around 10-13 in that heavy of a car, plus a stiff sidewall

Re: slicks wear pattern
thanks for the feedback. I don't think Hoosier makes a stiff sidewall in a tire over 15" wide. What are some of you runnnig? I was told by Hoosier that these were the old pro stock tires that had fairly stiff sidewalls. I really like the extra rubber on the track, the car has been more consistent. I am limited to a 15" wide rim, as the tire machine the tire shops around my locality have can't handle anything over 15 inches wide. I could try going up to 10+ pounds pressure and see what happens.

Re: slicks wear pattern
If your not running tubes you may want to try them with that tire at your weight ;)

Re: slicks wear pattern
I did try using tubes at one time. I found them to be very heavy, and slowed the car down by over a tenth in the 1/8 mile.

Re: slicks wear pattern
I run 16x33x15 Hoo."s Stiff side wall 6.1/2 pressure

Re: slicks wear pattern
Actually the tire you are running has the same sidewall as the 33/16, it is a wedge wall tire. If you were to take a knife and cut down from the ruffeling up on the tire you would see it is where the bead seats on the wheel. That's where the most pressure is put on the tire. This is not a bad thing. that is just part of having a 17 in. tread on a 15in. wheel.

Re: slicks wear pattern
I run a lightweight 31.5/13.5 on my 3000# car 10.5 lbs. air pressure, keeps you from running over the tire at launch. As tireman stated not uncommon for that wear pattern when you have a wide tire on the min. width wheel. I run a 16 inch wheel on my combo helps "flatten" the tread section out. Joe Sorry Tiremaster not tireman.
