Quadrajet Question
 

Hello All,

I have the opportunity to get a 1974 quadrajet, part number 7044202...my question is this-is it a legal replacement for carb number 7029201? If it is then my next question will be is it a good choice as a replacement or is there something else that would be better? It appears as though the carbs are the same size according to the blueprints listed on NHRA.
Any adoce is appreciated!

Yes, this Q-Jet is a legal replacement since both have a venturi size of 1.093 inches. In the world of Quadrajets, in my opinion, there isn't one particular number that is better than another. You just have to build one and try it and then if you can, compare it with others. The truth is that you are at the mercy of the core. Some are just better that others and the only way to find out is to try it on the car. One word of caution, DO NOT believe dyno figures when it comes to Quadrajets! The one that makes the most HP may not produce the quickest E.T. Dynos don't move or shift gears. Hope this helps. Danny

I always thought that the carb # had to match the # on the blue print sheet for that particular engine combo.

That's pretty much been changed. The only thng that matters is the venturi size. You can have either the front or side fuel entry too.
