Wheel bolt pattern question
When measuring wheel bolt patterns what is the proper method to use. Outside to outside or middle of stud to stud. Thanks.

Center of stud to center of stud.

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question
the center to center method only works with 4 or 6 lug patterns. with 5 lug patterns you measure from the center of first stud, then skip a stud and measure to the outside of the third stud.

Tim H, I think you are wrong, on 5 bolt wheel you measure straight across the wheel, to the center line of the bolt holes, Tom

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question
Whatever "trick" method you may choose, remember that you are measuring the diameter of a circle connecting the five studs. The distance from any stud to a point midway between two opposite studs on the arc of the circle is the correct measurement.

Re: Wheel bolt pattern question
on 5 count stud pattern; center of one stud to outer of third stud. I would assume on odd count stud pattern would be similar but not sure, ford light duty f250 with 7 stud pattern would be center on first stud to outer of fourth? on even pattern stud center of first stud to center of opposite stud. when i measured bolt pattern for my fwd h body gm (86 oldmobile delta 88) i went from center to outside and came up with 4 1/2 inches. yes a ford bolt pattern, i was able to mount 1998 ford mustang cobra wheels all the way around without any mods. looks good too. i was just wondering about the old lecars with 3 studs, how in the hell is that measured? or even the smart car?
