TH400 Questions
I hope someone can answer a few TH400 questions for me:
1)Which cooler line is the outlet to the cooler, upper or lower? 2)Which cooler line should I mount a transmission temperature guage in, the outlet or inlet? 3)To raise shift points, do I add or remove weight from the governor? |
Re: TH400 Questions
Lower fitting is "To Cooler"
Best place to put Temp Gauge is into the pan The governor shift points are determined by a combination of the weights and the springs. The smaller weights basically control the WOT 1-2 and 2-3 shift points. Raise the 2-3 shift point first by lightening up the small weights, do this in small steps. Then use the springs to dial in the 1-2 shift. The lighter the springs the higher the shift point. B&M makes a kit , if you get in trouble. |

Re: TH400 Questions
I worked as a development engineer at GM and we would place the temperature probe in the transmission stator which is the point where the trans fluid is the hottest. For racers like us it would take a lot of heartburn to do the above so what you can do is put the probe in the outlet trans line (going to the cooler) as close to the transmission as you can get it. That should get the job done. Putting the probe in the pan is OK but the fluid has a chance to cool in the pan so the temperatures will be lower.
