How much to mill?
How much can you mill off a block?
I need to mill about .080 off the deck is this done routinely? |
Re: How much to mill?
yes you can, but .100 on a bowtie block is considered the max. but people do mill factory blocks .50 all the time ,so i say ok. anybody else?

Re: How much to mill?
This would be proportionate to the deck thickness you're dealing with. Some engine blocks don't have alot of deck thickness to start with, you may need to be more specific on the block you're working with. Joe

Re: How much to mill?
Art, I am assuming this is for an ohc engine. The other thing you will need to look out for in this application is how it will affect cam timing. Adjustable cam gear/s may be needed to get you where you want to be. Sorry if this is not the app you were speaking of, and if you already knew that.

I think I'm just going get some new pistons made. And move the pin location. Thanks |
Re: How much to mill?
Oh I keep on forgetting that you run ss/stk. I have ported multiple 420a heads. Not my favorites to do for sure. But I did the head and turbofold on the highest whp stock srt4 turbo (with out meth) setup. Atleast as of last summer. Tiny little ports really help those things down low.

Re: How much to mill?
Art,
I had that same question. As stated, not all blocks are equal. So I cut the deck of one to answer my question. Let's just say I'm taking a lot off. The advantages are many. I gotta think those 2.4's are a dime-a-dozen. Tear into one and see what you can learn. Jeff |
