Holley Carb Question

1 Attachment(s)
I found a good deal on a Holley carb with the right part number for my stocker project.
Would the carb have a problem passing tech with 2 small 3/16" holes that have been drilled through the divider plate?

Re: Holley Carb Question

Send that picture to your div. tech dir. and if he says yes print out his reply and carry it with you. I have no idea what the intent was for drilling them, anybody else ever see this ?

Re: Holley Carb Question

You have to be pretty old to remember the purpose of those holes! Once upon a time before "double-pumpers" you could buy a kit to change vacuum secondaries to mechanical. In order to get rid of the bog, you got a special accelerator pump nozzle that directed some of the shot through two little pipes to the secondaries. Those holes were for the little pipes to pass through and squirt into the secondary barrels. Pretty lame huh?

Re: Holley Carb Question

Many years ago there were kits available to provide some of the accelerator pump shot to go into the secondary side of vac sec Holleys via 2 small tubes that ran thru 2 holes between the air horn "wall" , just like the holes in that photo. The 2 tubes were pressed into a modified pump squirter. My guess was that so many guys didn`t think the vac secondaries were working, so they stuck a screw in the secondary slot, which would cause a major bog. These kits were a crutch to make this mickey mouse "mod" more driver friendly.

Re: Holley Carb Question

Like Bill said, they were available as just the tube setup, or if you wanted to be "high tech", and didn`t want to jam a screw into the secondary slot, you could get a "gear drive" affair that fit onto the primary and secondary throttle shafts, and had a pair of 1/4 circle "gears" that made all 4 throttle blades open similtaniously.

Re: Holley Carb Question

Wow, you guys confirmed what the seller told me about the holes. (For secondary pump shot)
The carb is an 850cfm list #3418.
Regarding what it's going on, it's not an L88 '67 Vette, can anyone guess what it's for?
Now back to the question, will the holes get through tech?
I'm going to try Bob's suggestion and see what they say.

Re: Holley Carb Question

I sold a few of those secondary kits. Marketed by Eelco (sp?)
I guess that makes me in the really old, right Bill? :~)
If tech didn't like them fill with a little epoxy or JB weld.
